How does Serious Email work?

When someone not in your contacts sends you an email, it's automatically moved to a special Gmail folder called 'PAYMENT REQUIRED'. The sender receives a payment request for $0.50. Once paid, their email is delivered to your inbox and they're whitelisted for future emails.

Are my emails safe with Serious Email?

Yes, absolutely. No emails are ever deleted or lost. Everything is stored safely in your Gmail account - just organized better. You can always access the PAYMENT REQUIRED folder directly in Gmail if needed.

Who gets through without paying?

Anyone already in your Gmail contacts list bypasses the payment system entirely. Also, when you send an email to someone, they're automatically whitelisted so their replies come straight to your inbox.

How much does Serious Email cost?

Serious Email is completely free to use. There are no subscription fees or credit card requirements. The only payments involved are the $0.50 fees that unknown senders pay to reach your inbox.

Can I give someone emergency access?

Yes! You can create bypass passwords for important contacts. This gives them temporary emergency access to reach you directly without payment when they need to contact you urgently.

What happens to spam and marketing emails?

Spam and marketing emails are moved to the PAYMENT REQUIRED folder. Most spammers won't pay to reach you, effectively filtering them out. Legitimate businesses that really want to reach you can choose to pay the fee.

Can I customize the payment amount?

Currently, the payment amount is fixed at $0.50. This amount is designed to be low enough for legitimate senders but high enough to deter spam.

How do I disconnect Serious Email?

You can disconnect Serious Email at any time from your dashboard. This will stop the email filtering, and all your emails will go back to normal Gmail behavior. Your Gmail account remains unchanged.

What if someone important can't pay?

You have several options: You can manually whitelist their email address from your dashboard, create a bypass password for them, or simply send them an email first to auto-whitelist them.

Do you read or store my emails?

No. Serious Email only reads email headers (sender, subject) to determine if someone is whitelisted. We never read, store, or have access to your email content. Everything stays in your Gmail account.
